Step-by-step glimpses, ongoing builds, and all the messy creative fun behind every costume.
The most exciting part of cosplay, for me, isn’t just the big reveal—it’s everything that happens along the way. That’s why In the Making exists: to capture the sketches, the trial runs, the unfinished props, and even the mistakes that make the final costume possible.
Whenever I’m working on a new look, my table usually turns into a mess of fabrics, paints, and tools. But in that chaos, there’s creativity. I’ve learned that every unfinished piece has a story to tell. A foam chest plate drying under books, a wig half-styled with pins everywhere, or a mask that still needs another layer of paint—these are all moments worth sharing, because they show the real heart of the process.
What I love about seeing other fans’ “in progress” submissions is that it makes the craft feel more approachable. When I watch someone else sanding down EVA foam, stitching seams, or trying a makeup test, I’m reminded that we’re all learning as we go. These snapshots prove that cosplay doesn’t have to be perfect from the start. It’s about experimenting, failing, fixing, and improving until you finally feel ready to step into character.
Sharing works in progress also builds a deeper sense of community. I know that when I post an “almost done” photo, someone out there might say, “I tried that too, here’s what worked for me.” That back-and-forth helps everyone grow, because progress photos spark conversations that polished pictures often can’t.
For me, In the Making is where the magic hides. It’s the space between the idea and the finished look, where creativity is raw, fun, and totally unfiltered. And I think that’s the part worth celebrating just as much as the costume itself.
